Building permits are required for all of the following: any structural changes or renovations to an existing building; new construction of homes, garages, pole barns, sheds, decks, other structures; pools and hot tubs, including any pool which will contain 24" of water; mobile home on individual lots and/or in mobile home parks; any changes to electrical services; installation of wood burning appliances; installation of new heating systems; outdoor wood burning furnaces; solar installations; new and/or renovated septic systems; signs. Questions regarding other construction/renovations/alterations should be directed to the Building Department.

No, building permits are not required for fences. Fences must be placed 2' on your own property so that maintenance of the fence may be done from your own property.

Building permits are not required if you are only changing the roofing materials (shingles, slate, metal). If there is any structural work to be done, yes, a building permit is required.

Required inspections vary depending on any given project.
